NEW MEXICO: Shooters shot and killed five men and one woman at a privately-owned drug rehabilitation center in Guadalajara, officials said.
The public prosecutor’s office in western Jalisco said the attack occurred at midnight in Tlaquepaque, a suburb of the capital city of Guadalajara.
“The criminal news was announced by emergency number about 2308 hours, and city police confirmed reports that several armed groups were shown at the same location at the rehab center,” he said. Prosecutor’s newsletter.
Municipal medical service first responders and rescue workers have found the bodies of four men and one woman lying on the scene of a crime. The fifth victim was a man who died after seeing a doctor.
“Women who died are between 18 and 23 years old, two men are about 61 to 56 years old, and the other three are 20 to 30 years old,” the prosecution said in detail.
The office said several people were involved in the attack, but did not provide information on their motives.
The Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), one of the most violent states in the country, has announced a search for a responsible person. Jalisco is one of six states that concentrates half of the intentional murders that occur in the country.
Mexican drug gangs have attacked rehab centers in the past, killing drug users and dealers who are usually allied with rival gangs. In 2020, armed groups killed 27 people at a rehabilitation center in neighboring Guanajuato.
Mexico has long had problems with rehab centers. This is because most are privately run and underfunded and often abuse recovery addicts. Governments spend relatively little money on rehabilitation, often making unregistered centers the only option available to poor families.
In addition, addicts and dealers who face attacks from rivals on the street may evacuate to rehab clinics, which themselves are the target of the attack.
