Washington: It is estimated that the US military equipment worth billions of dollars fell into the hands of the Taliban!
According to information compiled by the US media, Black Hawk helicopters and A-29 Super Tucano attack aircraft are among the equipment seized by the Taliban.
Photos are posted on social media showing Taliban fighters with M4 carbines and M16 rifles, as well as American-made Humvees and armored vehicles.
Experts point out that it is not possible to use advanced aircraft without training, and point out that the Taliban’s capture of American equipment is an important propaganda tool.
SMALL WEAPONS CAUSE BIGGER CONCERN
On the other hand, small arms seized by the Taliban raise greater concern.
The United States has spent $83 billion on training and equipment for Afghan security forces over the past 20 years.
According to the 2017 report of the US Court of Accounts, Afghan forces were supplied with approximately 76,000 vehicles, 600 thousand guns, 163 thousand communications equipment, and 208 aircraft in 2003-2016.
At least 46 aircraft used by Afghan forces to escape from Kabul last weekend are reportedly in Uzbekistan.
This week, 25 senators, led by Republican Marco Rubio, have questioned US President Joe Biden’s administration’s plans to retrieve or destroy that equipment, demanding a full breakdown of how much of the equipment supplied to Afghan forces has fallen into the hands of the Taliban over the past 12 months.
US Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley said yesterday that the military’s priority is the evacuation of American citizens, but that they have the power to destroy equipment captured by the Taliban.
