Stockholm: Löfven, who made his traditional summer speech in the Runö region of the capital Stockholm, Sweden, stated that he will not be a presidential candidate at his party’s congress in November and that he will resign from the prime ministership.
Expressing that he has been the party chairman for 10 years, Löfven said, “I have been the prime minister for 7 years. It was a great period for me. Now, I want to hand over my duties to my friends from behind on good terms.”
Löfven, who was elected as the chairman of the Social Democratic Party in 2012, became the prime minister by winning both the 2014 and 2018 general elections.
It is not yet known who will succeed Lofven as party leader, though Stenberg and other political commentators speculated that Finance Minister Magdalena Andersson was a hot tip.
