Havana: The US president previously dismissed the response of the Cuban health system to the pandemic.Leading Cuban scientists announced that they had sent a joint letter to US President Joe Biden, highlighting the island’s capabilities in dealing with the pandemic.
In their open letter, the scientists refute Biden’s statements, who claimed that Cuba is a “failed state.” The US president also questioned the capabilities of the Cuban public health system to cope with the pandemic.
For his part, Vicente Vérez Bencomo, director of the Finlay Vaccine Institute, assures that Biden’s statements constitute an attempt to “undermine the potentiality” of everything that Cuban doctors are doing.
The letter includes data on the achievements of Cuban science in the development of vaccines, among other things. Mitchell Valdés Sosa, director of the Center for Neurosciences, maintains that “if President Biden wants to help Cuba, what he has to do is lift the blockade.”
