Pro-Palestinian demonstration at Mexico's largest university

MEXICO CITY: A new Palestinian demonstration was held by students at Mexico's largest university in Mexico City on the 2nd. Students set up tents and protested against Israel's invasion of the Gaza Strip, a Palestinian-controlled area, as in demonstrations at universities across the United States.

The protest took place at Mexico's National Autonomous University (UNAM). Students held flags and banners and shouted "Long live a free Palestine." Demonstrators are calling on the government to sever diplomatic and commercial ties with Israel.

Students said, "We are here to support Palestine, the Palestinian people, and the American student camp," and some expressed hope that the protests at UNAM will spread to other universities in the country, saying, "If we see what we're doing here, other universities will take action."

Pro-Palestinian demonstrations have spread to dozens of universities in the United States in recent weeks, with clashes between police and protesters.

Valentina Pino, a student in the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, said: “We are here to support Palestine and the people of Palestine and to support the student protest movement in the United States.” In turn, her colleague from the same university, Jimena Rosas, expressed her hope that the contagion from this protest camp will spread to other universities in the country.
