Russia no longer has “red lines” regarding France, Medvedev said

MOSCOW: Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said on March 7 that Russia no longer has “red lines” towards France following statements by French leader Emmanuel Macron about Paris’s lack of support for Kyiv.

“Macron said that “there are no more red lines, no more limits” on the issue of support for Ukraine. Then this means that Russia no longer has any red lines regarding France,” Medvedev wrote on the social network X.

He accompanied the entry with the Latin expression In hostem omina licita, meaning “everything is permitted in relation to the enemy.”

As Regnum reported, after a conference on supporting Ukraine in Paris at the end of February, Macron said that the heads of the EU discussed the topic of possibly sending their military to the republic. There is no general opinion, he noted, but at the same time he emphasized that “nothing can be ruled out in the development of the situation” and that Russia should not emerge victorious from the conflict. Polish President Andrzej Duda and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico also spoke about the lack of a common position on the issue.

State Duma deputy and member of the International Affairs Committee Dmitry Belik spoke about a conspiracy by some NATO countries to legalize the presence of their military in Ukraine. In turn, the head of the Russian delegation at the negotiations in Vienna on military security issues, Konstantin Gavrilov, recalled that Moscow had repeatedly warned NATO about the danger of their direct participation in hostilities in Ukraine.

Later, the press secretary of the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov, stated that the West is playing with fire on the issue of sending troops to Ukraine, and specifically Paris is making contradictory statements on the Ukrainian problem. As the Kremlin representative noted, in his opinion, this is evidence of an active intra-French and intra-European discussion on the topic. At the same time, Macron is increasing the level of France’s direct involvement in the conflict, as he is convinced of inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia, Peskov added.
