TOKYO: Tetsuya Yamagami, who shot dead Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, admitted that he tried to make a bomb. This is reported by Kyodo, citing law enforcement sources.
Yamagami, 41, is also known to have made several firearms.
The murderer of the former Japanese prime minister on the morning of July 10 was handed over to the prosecutor's office.
Recall that on the morning of July 8, the former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe was attacked in the city of Nara. It is known that a suspicious man attacked Shinzo Abe from behind. The attacker was detained by the police, he turned out to be 41-year-old Tetsuya Yamagami.
Later, the NHK television channel published footage showing the moment the attacker shot at the Japanese ex-premier.
The former premier was taken to Nara Medical University Hospital unconscious. The 67-year-old politician received gunshot wounds to the neck and chest. Doctors fought for his life, but he died.
Yamagami himself, during interrogation, stated that he allegedly first wanted to kill another person, the head of a certain religious organization. However, then he decided to make an attempt on Abe, who was allegedly involved in the activities of this organization.
