WASHINGTON: The Russian strategy that the country is building in Central America came as a surprise to the United States.
A similar message came from analyst Stephen Blank in an article for The Hill.
It was noted that the President of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, announced permission to temporarily deploy troops of another country on the territory of his state. However, they can be used for humanitarian purposes.
Several countries could use this right, including the USA, Mexico, Venezuela, Cuba and others. The Russian Federation also received a similar opportunity to deploy the army.
The analyst noted that such an appearance of Russian forces in Central America can be called the first and significant, since it can serve as the basis for the further military presence of the Russian Federation in Nicaragua and beyond.
Blank stressed that Russia will continue to forge ties with other developing countries, which will allow it to increase its influence. This strategy came as a surprise to the United States.
