Armed Forces of Ukraine began to use the Czech Uragan MLRS based on Tatra

MOSCOW: The Armed Forces of Ukraine began to use the BM-27 Uragan MLRS based on the Czech truck Tatra. A video of the use of such a combat vehicle was published on Ukrainian social networks.

On the published video, you can see the Uragan MLRS on the T815-7T3RC1 8x8 chassis. It is assumed that these vehicles were specially upgraded to meet the requirements of the Ukrainian army. The BM-27 based on the Tatra received a cockpit reinforced with armor, an automatic transmission and a new engine, the guidance and communication system was upgraded.

Plans to transfer the BM-27 launcher to the base of Czech trucks existed in Ukraine even before the Russian special operation. It is noteworthy that it was originally planned to transfer the Uragan to the chassis of KrAZ trucks, however, due to the bankruptcy of the manufacturing plant, the Ukrainian leadership decided to use Czech vehicles in this capacity.

After testing a prototype of such a MLRS at the end of 2021, Ukraine purchased 16 vehicles to create such multiple launch rocket systems. It was supposed to equip these Hurricanes with a digital fire control system, including the ability to transmit information from a reconnaissance UAV in real time to the MLRS crew. In addition, for the new BM-27, Yuzhnoye Design Bureau developed special missiles, the radius of destruction of which was increased from 35 to 65 kilometers. How many machines in a similar configuration managed to create and how many of them are used in the Armed Forces of Ukraine is unknown.
