MOSCOW: We witness the manifestation of classic double standards and hypocrisy of the Western establishment at present, the minister said.
NATO countries are doing everything to prevent completion of the Russian special operation in Ukraine by political agreements, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in the interview with the Xinhua news agency.
"We witness the manifestation of classic double standards and hypocrisy of the Western establishment at present. Publicly expressing support to the Kiev regime, NATO countries are doing everything to prevent completion of the operation by way of reaching political agreements," the Russian Minister said.
NATO is doing everything to prevent political agreements between Russia and Ukraine
Various weapons are sent to Ukraine through Poland and other NATO countries in an "endless stream", the Minister of Foreign Affairs noted
NATO countries are doing everything to prevent the completion of the Russian special operation in Ukraine through political agreements. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in an interview with the Xinhua news agency.
"Now we are witnessing the manifestation of classic double standards and hypocrisy of the Western establishment. Publicly expressing support for the Kyiv regime, NATO countries are doing everything to prevent the completion of the operation by reaching political agreements," the minister said.
"Various weapons are sent to Ukraine through Poland and other NATO countries in an endless stream. All this is done under the pretext of "fighting the invasion", but in fact the United States and the European Union intend to fight Russia "to the last Ukrainian", and they are absolutely indifferent to the fate of Ukraine as independent subject of international relations," Lavrov added.
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that the United States and NATO "should come to their senses and stop supplying weapons and ammunition to Kyiv" if they are really interested in resolving the Ukrainian crisis.
"The Ukrainian people do not need Stingers and Javelins, but urgent humanitarian issues," the minister noted. "Russia has been doing this since 2014. During this time, tens of thousands of tons of humanitarian military operation on the part of Ukraine liberated from the Kyiv regime, the DPR and LPR have already received about 15 thousand tons of humanitarian aid.
On the support of Kyiv by the West
Western countries, justifying the actions of the Ukrainian authorities, become accomplices in crimes committed by nationalists, Lavrov believes.
"It is high time for the West to stop unconditionally whitewashing and covering Kyiv. Otherwise, Washington, Brussels and other Western capitals should be aware of the responsibility for complicity in the bloody crimes of Ukrainian nationalists," the minister said.
According to Lavrov, Ukrainian armed formations use the help of representatives of Western countries, in particular, using their media resources. "With the help of their Western patrons and the global media [formations] controlled by Westerners, they accuse the Russian army of war crimes. They shift, as we say, the responsibility for what is happening from a sick head to a healthy one," he said.
The Russian minister also called on the Ukrainian authorities to stop provocations, including in the information space.
“It is necessary that Kyiv stop cynical provocations, including in the information space. Ukrainian armed formations, using civilians as human shields, carry out barbaric shelling of cities, as was the case in Donetsk and Kramatorsk. publishing their atrocities on the Internet," he stressed.
Russia is in favor of continuing negotiations with Ukraine, but this is hampered by inflammatory actions by the West, Lavrov said.
"We are in favor of continuing negotiations, although they are not going well. You are right to ask what is preventing them. For example, these are militant rhetoric and inflammatory actions of Kyiv's Western backers," he said.
According to the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Western countries encourage Kyiv to "fight to the last Ukrainian", supplying Ukraine with weapons and preventing negotiations. "I am convinced that it will be possible to reach agreements only when Kyiv begins to be guided by the interests of the Ukrainian people, and not by advisers from afar," he added.
Lavrov noted that the Russian and Ukrainian delegations continue negotiations on a daily basis via videoconferencing.
"The settlement of the situation in Ukraine will make it possible to make a significant contribution to the de-escalation of military-political tensions in Europe, and in the world as a whole. One of the possible options is the creation of an institution of guarantor states, among which, first of all, are the permanent members of the UN Security Council, including Russia and China," Lavrov summed up.
