MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the spring conscription of Russian citizens for military service. The document was published on Thursday on the official portal of legal information.
"To carry out from April 1 to July 15, 2022, the conscription of citizens of the Russian Federation aged 18 to 27 years who are not in the reserve and are subject <...> to conscription for military service, in the amount of 134,500 people," the decree says . This is less than last spring, when 134,650 people were drafted into the Russian Armed Forces.
The decree also prescribes the dismissal from military service of soldiers, sailors, sergeants and foremen whose term of military service has expired.
It is entrusted to the government of the Russian Federation, regional authorities and draft commissions to ensure the implementation of all the necessary activities within the framework of the call.
Earlier, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu instructed to start sending conscripts to the troops at the end of May. He stressed that Russian citizens sent to military service in the spring will not be sent to any hot spots, and all military personnel of last year’s spring draft will be transferred to the reserve after the expiration of their service life and sent to their places of residence.
