Rome: President Joseph Biden shared details of his meeting with Pope Francis. When asked if they discussed abortion, he said no.
The President said, “We just talked about the fact he was happy I was a good Catholic and keep receiving communion.”
The President of the United States has been at the center of a debate on whether or not Catholic politicians who support abortion rights should be allowed to receive communion. In fact, the United States Bishops’ Conference will meet in a few weeks to continue their discussion on the matter.
When asked about the issue in September, Pope Francis responded that a priest or bishop should always act first as a pastor, and that “if he moves away from the Church’s pastoral approach, then he immediately becomes a politician.”
